Dear Mr. President Elect: please save me from your followers

It seems that after you won the race for the Presidency, many of your supporters did not get the memo about “unity”. Some did. They seem nice enough. But there is still a strong sense of rage:

One student suggested that she be put up on a cross for her political beliefs.

“He said, ‘You should be crucifixed.’ It was kind of funny because, I was like, don’t you mean ‘crucified?’ ” Catherine said.

Other entries in her notebook involved suggestions by classmates that she be “burned with her shirt on” for “being a filthy-rich Republican.”

Is this what you seek? Is this a future of America? Talk radio was not kind to you. So a Buffalo NY media exec wants it silenced. Never mind the 1st Amendment.

The campaign season is over. It is time to lead. Time for policies, not protests. We get it, your followers are angry and many want revenge on the right wing. But now we need to get on with the serious business of running the country, fixing the economy and defending freedom. Your followers seem to be stuck in 2004.
Prove me wrong. Mr. President-Elect, save me from your followers. This is not the America I grew up with, not the one I want my kids to grow up in and not the country I signed up to defend. Show me that you are commited to change and hope unity and that the rule of law will not be trumped by winners hubris. A president can call for calm and unity, but that is the norm. A president-elect calling for unity and people following him, that’s one for the history books.
