War and Peace: Hypocrisy Springs into Action

The left believes that taxes are good right? The Rich Should Pay Their Fair Share[tm] is a slogan of the left. Friends, fellow students and college professors drilled that point into me while I was a young college student. I stuck to my guns and voted Republican anyway.

So it is a shock when I come across this little gem from Alec Baldwin:

The actor recently rebuked New York Governor David Paterson for threatening to try to help close the state’s $7 billion budget deficit by canceling a 35% tax credit for films shot in the Big Apple.

“I’m telling you right now,” Mr. Baldwin declared, “if these tax breaks are not reinstated into the budget, film production in this town is going to collapse, and television is going to collapse and it’s all going to go to California.” Well, well. Apparently taxes do matter, at least when it comes to filming “30 Rock” in Manhattan…..

It’s ok to jack taxes up on the people who watch him on the TV, but tax the people who sign his pay check and he gets fighting mad.

A Yahoo blog tries to paint over some presidential gaffes:

But in a way, it’s heartening to hear our politicians stumble over words, mangle syntax and make inappropriate jokes. It shows politicians are human, too. Sometimes.

(H/T: Ace of Spades)

But when George W. Bush was president, every gaffe was a sign that he was the moron-in-chief. Google “bush” and “chimp” and see what you find.

And so traditional media dies. The left grabed control of Hollywood and the press back in the 1960’s. they have been trying to shape the debate for decades. The internet changes the rules. People get news and entertainment without have class warfare shoved down their throats. Bloggers are doing the work that the media is refusing to do. With the 24 hour news cycle, their hypocrisy is laid bare. Who wants to read news stories that whitewash the truth? Even Hollywood’s pro leftist message has bombed at the box office.

I spend more time on the internet. Less time watching TV or going to movies. No, I don’t pirate movies. Nor is work an excuse. I just don’t like having leftist morals shoved at me. Even foreign media are starting to notice that our institutions are stumbling:

One test of whether we are witnessing the end of America is how many more times Americans put up with congressional show trials of individual business people and their employees, slandering and vilifying them for their actions and motives. And for how long will they tolerate a President who berates business and corporations as dens of crime and malfeasance? If the majority of Americans come to accept the caricatures of business as true, then America is closer to the end of its life as a global leader, as a champion of markets and individualism.

( H/T: Confederate Yankee)

As this nation marhces off the cliff, the media and Hollywood are leading the parade. Too bad for them that many in this country are not joining in. Internet use is going up as traditional media’s sales go down. The recession is partially to blame, but many are tired of the same old message.

That does not stop the media’s clamor for a bailout of their own:

We begin with the notion that journalism is a public good, that it has broad social benefits far beyond that between buyer and seller. Like all public goods, we need the resources to get it produced. This is the role of the state and public policy. It will require a subsidy and should be regarded as similar to the education system or the military in that regard. Only a nihilist would consider it sufficient to rely on profit-seeking commercial interests or philanthropy to educate our youth or defend the nation from attack. With the collapse of the commercial news system, the same logic applies.

As a service member, I take great umbrage to that comparison. Only in the parallel world that is the left could anti-Americanism and class warfare be considered a public service. When the going gets tough, the left comes begging for money instead of trying to change with the times. Point out the hypocrisy and you get called vile names.

And they accuse us of being greedy.

RIP old media, we are richer for have lost you.
