The real 1%

But much of the blame for so many young people’s disillusionment should fall on the colleges and universities that promised them the moon in the first place. Why does a 27-year-old with little work experience and a Master of Fine Arts degree expect that a job in her field will be easy to find? Or pay a “living wage”? It is likely that, starting in high school and continuing through college, her counselors and teachers told her that a college degree—any college degree—was the fast track to success and fortune. And then college administrators repeated the myth and added that an advanced degree would certainly assure success, fulfillment, and happiness.

Why do such students everywhere assume that $100,000 in student loan debt won’t be a huge burden as they start careers and families? Because Sallie Mae and the university student loan office explained that student loans are “good debt” and that once students graduate and have a job, monthly loan payments won’t be a big deal.
–“Blame Universities—Not Wall Street“: Jenna Ashley Robinson, Pope Center

So the emphasis is mine, but the point is valid. A master’s in Fine Arts, (Fill-in-the-Blank) Studies etc. That don’t pay the bills.

Employers want workers who show up on time. Who don’t look like freaks. That’s too much to ask of the OWS mob.

Once again, the left and it’s fellow travelers in academia have screwed the pooch. And screwed over a generation.

The FBI today

These headlines actually appeared in the Daily Caller’s roundup of news.

  1. Progressives, Islamists huddle at Justice Department
  2. FBI report warns of growing Juggalo threat”

Let me get this straight. Islamic militants who want to kill us just need to be understood? We can’t call out their raping of boys in Afghanistan, their murder of 3,000 Americans or their antisemitism.

The department’s “civil rights lawyers are top of the line — I say this with utter honesty — I know they can come up with a way” to redefine criticism as discrimination, said Sahar Aziz, a female, Egyptian-American lawyer.

“I’d be willing to give a shot at it,” said Aziz, who is a fellow at the Michigan-based Muslim advocacy group, the Institute for Social Policy & Understanding.

But the fans of shitty rap group are a national security risk….

First reported by Wired’s Spencer Ackerman, the FBI report makes the bizarre allegation that the Juggalo threat is expanding in New Mexico in particular because of their affinity for Native American culture, mentioning their connection to the rap group only in a footnote.

So the FBI still can’t understand sleeper cells and Islamic radicals in the US. It can understand the “progressives” from the Ivy League book-bumbass factories who are quislings politically correct.

I need a drink.

Of Student Loans and OWS

Posted in politcs, rankers, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on 28, October 2011 by chockblock

I’m not the first one to make this association:

It’s pretty clear that a core issue animating these protesters is the ridiculous debt obligations that they voluntarily assumed. It’s therefore almost funny to see the working class union types leaping on board to help out kids whose demands, if acceded to, will pile ever greater debt on the ordinary working stiffs in America.

Student loans started out as a good idea. The GI Bill got the whole thing started, by having the government create a program that provided higher education for those who would otherwise be unable to afford it. The end result was a dynamic, educated group of former military people (trained, disciplined, seasoned and responsible) who helped sweep the country to great prosperity during the 1950s and early 1960s.
The genesis of Occupy Wall Street distilled to two words: student loans:

So OWS is just spoiled children asking something for nothing. For years the left and the MSM knew that college education was becoming bullshit. Many degrees aren’t worth the thousands of dollars in debt students sign up for. Yet college is shilled by the left and the MSM.

So these spoiled children are angry that we want the student loans paid back. They want jobs, but only jobs where they can do what ever they want to wear what they want and work the hours they want for more pay. Reality has ensued. We want our student loan money back (because it’s a loan). Crushing debt makes you unemployable in a bad economy. Studying fluff in college likewise makes you hard to hire.

Without new blood, without student loans, the left would have died in the 80’s and 90’s. It was student loans, subsidizing many liberal arts colleges, that propped up the Marxist agiprop that passes for education.

The bubble is bursting.

I predict that OWS is the high water mark of the old left. Everything after 2020 will be some “New Left” (or “New New Left” for those of you who remember the 60’s era new left). The Marxist left is like the KKK in the 1920’s. Many forget that in the 20’s the Klan had one million (yes one mil) dues paying members. They even tried to recruit Truman when he was a state senator. Between the Depression and WWII, the Klan stagnated. After the 50’s and 60’s they became a joke (with a small revival in the 70’s).

I predict that the OWS is the “old left”. Smelly hippies, commies and other Marxist fellow travelers. They’ll expend all their energy trying to launch a campaign for free stuff. Coward-Priven their way into a Marxist utopia. The “other peoples/1%” money is running out.

They’ll crash and burn. Public opinon will sour. The MSM will move on. And if the higher education bubble bursts (and especially if student loans end) they will lose numbers and their shiny PR image. They’ll become the butt of jokes and may even become the villains in pop culture (the kiss of death to any movement). Fewer college students will pick up Marx as they want to get a real job after college.

Some new leftist movement will take their place. But it won’t be asking for free anything. There will be no drumming in parks and Karl Marx acolytes will be asked to shut the hell up.

And the OWS will join the IWW, the anarchists and the KKK as another sad chapter in American history.

Well, well, what do we have here? The “99%”…as they call themselves. Spoiled brats who can’t seem to figure out why the real 99% don’t embrace brain-dead leftist talking points.

“Take, for example, the complaints of the young Americans currently “occupying” Wall Street. Many protesters have told sympathetic reporters that “it’s our Arab Spring.” Put aside the differences between brutal totalitarian dictatorships and a republic of biennial elections, and simply consider it in economic terms: At the “Occupy” demonstrations, not-so-young college students are demanding that their tuition debt be forgiven. In Egypt, half the population lives in poverty; the country imports more wheat than any other nation on the planet, and the funds to do that will dry up in a couple months’ time. They’re worrying about starvation, not how to fund half a decade of Whatever Studies at Complacency U.

One sympathizes. When college tuition is $50,000 a year, you can’t “work your way through college” — because, after all, an 18-year-old who can earn 50-grand a year wouldn’t need to go to college, would he? Nevertheless, his situation is not the same as some guy halfway up the Nile living on $2 a day: One is a crisis of the economy, the other is a crisis of decadence. And, generally, the former are far easier to solve.”

Crisis of Decadence, Mark Steyn, October 15, National Review Online

Like the 1960’s, we have protestors fighting police, demanding violence and spitting on service members. Only not much is happening outside of the protests.

Except hate. Lot’s of hate.

Now, the 60’s generation had a draft and a war in Vietnam. That got white butts in the streets. Student loans? Bank Fees? Debt? Not so much.

Now Adbusters (very anti-jew, under a mask of marxism) came up with the “occupy” protests. The Democrats and the professional left are using them to shore up their candidate’s falling poll numbers.

As for the spirit of the 60’s? I don’t think the left really wants to summon that ghost. The selfish, drugged out, smelly hippies who turned into the perfectly coiffed yuppies who run the banks now occupied by their darling protestors.

What’s good is that the longer this goes on, the loonier the left becomes. From a reporter joining the protests to spolied brats asking for handouts.
Oh, don’t forget a congressman asking the Whitehouse to break the law so that the democrats can “fix” the economy.

Yeah…so 99%…..

The MSM thinks that this will play in Peoria. I think it will destroy them.

When the Tea Party had rallies, they were clean. Signs were hand printed. There were few loonies. Just click on the links above and you will see hate. Zionist conspiracy deck that would make the tin-foil crowd blush. They want to destroy the US. As long as what’s left pays their student loans of course.

America woke up. The left hates it. The radical left has nothing left except violence and bile. When Nazi’s and Commies like you, you should worry. When even the New York Times questions your motives, or one of your supporters wants you to DIE.…worry!

Yes, a MSM “analyst” wants a “Kent State moment.” Never mind that the whole thing was a massive accident. Really. Look it up lefties.

Well, they won’t get it. What they are getting is most of America tuning them out.

Should we make peace with those bags of crazy?

Time and again, the left has tried to sneak evil, Marxist ideology and power grabs when we try to make peace. Give them any part of what they want and doom will result. Let the world see who these assclowns really are.

Because making peace with Commie stupid is the first step toward becoming Commie stupid.
R.S. McCain

True in 1968 as it is in 2011.

I have that “waiting for a bunch of shoes to drop” feeling about the current world situation. It’s not going to be nice. It’s not going to be over quickly. It’s like the summer of 1914, but I keep wondering “Where is the Sarajevo? Who will be the Archduke?”. What we now call World War I didn’t just happen without a long run-up, but still few predicted it. This is financial, at least in part, but then again, that was at the root of the beginnings of such conflagrations as the French and Russian Revolutions, whose aftershocks are still with us. So, where will it start this time, and when?

They Is College Grads

Posted in politcs, rankers, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on 3, October 2011 by chockblock

Instapundit brings us this little gem:

We often hear lamentations about declining educational quality, but the focus is usually misplaced on SAT scores and graduation rates. Missing from the conversation is the quality of what’s being taught. Meanwhile, we are mistakenly wed to the notion that more people going to college means more people will find jobs.

Obviously the weak economy is a factor in the highest unemployment rate for those ages 16 to 29 since World War II. But there’s more to the story. Fundamentally, students aren’t learning what they need to compete for the jobs that do exist.–

Our unprepared graduates“, Kathleen Parker, Washington Post.

Our government already spends more per capita on education than any other of the 34 wealthiest countries in the world except for Switzerland, according to recent analysis of data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Overall inflation-adjusted K-12 spending has tripled over the past 40 years, the Michigan-based Mackinac Center for Public Policy points out. Yet American test scores and graduation rates are stagnant. One in 10 high schools is a dropout factory. And our students’ performance in one of the most prestigious global math competitions has been so abysmal that the U.S. simply withdrew altogether.
Michelle Malkin, More here, here and here.

It’s not rocket science. From the diversity monster to the self-esteem movement, college has gone soft. School has been dumbed down, producing soft, stupid teachers who beget soft stupid high-schoolers. The MSM makes note of this, but trust me, this will pass. Every year there is some stats (like the ones Malkin cites) that are dreary. There is much hand wringing and gnashing of teeth but my the last day of school…
What what about education?

They, the MSM and the Teacher’s Unions, have know about this for decades. Instead of teaching skills and hard science and maths…we get fluff and “womyn’s” studies.

Want fries with that?

You future in Liberal Arts!

Until everyone gets serious, and we get school choice, education will suck.
